Reporting line: R&D Manager

Location: Ashbourne, Co. Meath

Role type: Full time – Permanent


The R&D Technologist will be part of the Technical/R&D team reporting to the R&D Manager. He/she will have responsibility for delivering innovation and renovation projects. This is a hands-on, factory-based development role where the candidate will be involved in all aspects of product development, from initial concept to launch.


  • Lead NPD and Renovation projects from initial brief through to product launch
  • Source raw materials needed for the projects
  • Develop kitchen samples
  • Organise sensory tasting sessions
  • Organise and lead factory trials
  • Attend product launches
  • Update all R&D trial reports/records
  • Participate in cross-functional company projects (cost-saving, product and processes optimisation etc.)
  • Create and maintain finished product specifications
  • Verify technical aspect of raw material specifications (hit-list of ingredients, sodium content etc.) and record/maintain raw material specifications in our on-line specification database
  • Create bill of materials in our on-line specification database
  • Design pack copies
  • Sign off artworks
  • Deal with private labels specifications through retailers’ on-line systems
  • Conduct other tasks in relations to technical/quality such as shelf life tastings
  • Fill out regular updated technical files for the head office


  • Strong R&D and technical knowledge
  • Experience in crisp / snack processes or seasoning industry desired but not essential
  • Good working knowledge of specification process, with retailer systems TTL etc. experience preferred
  • Good working knowledge of legal labelling requirements


  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an NPD discipline
  • 3rd level degree or diploma in Food Technology or Technical related qualification.
  • Understanding of product & process development, ideally within Food Manufacturing.
